SAN DIEGO, CA – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement in honor of Memorial Day, which takes place tomorrow, May 26th:

“San Diego is a military and veterans town, and we are proud of our heritage protecting our national security. On Memorial Day, we honor the sacrifices of men and women who have given their lives in service to our country. Every day, servicemen and women come to San Diego from the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan. One way to honor our war dead is to honor the promises to those who live and return home. They deserve the health care and services they’ve earned with their sacrifice.

“The San Diego story is in many ways defined by our military’s presence and tradition, both past and present, and Memorial Day is a sacred time to remember those we’ve lost.”

Rep. Peters will be participating in several Memorial Day observances. He is the keynote speaker at services in Rancho Bernardo and will participate in a special ceremony at Mt. Soledad honoring Sgt. Rafael Peralta, USMC, who was killed during heroic service in Iraq in 2004.

Congressman Peters was also a featured speaker at ceremonies honoring World War II Veterans on the USS Midway Museum on Saturday.
