President Trump and Elon Musk have displayed little regard for ethics, conflict of interest concerns, or standard security measures. Republicans have refused to hold them accountable and are even ceding Congress’ power as a co-equal, independently elected branch of government. Please read below for regular updates on the work that House Democrats and I are doing to respond to these harmful actions.
If you have been fired from your federal job, have stopped receiving federal funds to your organization or business, or have otherwise been affected by changes the Trump Administration has implemented, please share your story here. By sharing your voice, you can help me best represent San Diego in Congress.
Introduced an amendment to the No Rogue Rulings Act of 2025. My amendment would have simply reaffirmed Congress's support for the constitutional separation of powers and respect for the judicial branch. Republicans rejected it.
Combined with 1,500 Jan 6th pardons, Eric Adams’ charge dismissal underscores the dangerous message that crimes are okay if they’re committed in support of Donald Trump or if you’re willing to do his bidding. I called for the court's rejection of this dismissal due to the severity of the charges against Eric Adams. Judge Dale Ho agreed to the U.S. Department of Justice's request to drop the charges against Adams, but did so "with prejudice," meaning Adams cannot be re-tried on the same charges at a later time.
Cosponsored the Ending DOGE Conflicts Act to ensure transparency, end conflicts of interest, and establish independent review of government employees like Elon Musk.
Joined Rep. Moulton (MA-6) to request information from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding Elon Musk’s DOGE’s involvement in FAA, if Elon or DOGE have accessed proprietary FAA information, and if the agency has conducted thorough vetting on potential conflicts of interest with Starlink.
Cosponsored Rep. Subramanyam’s (VA-10) LEASH DOGE Act. The bill would require DOGE to report to Congress a list of its’ staff and whether they have security clearances or conflicts of interest, what personal information DOGE accesses, and a public list of all workers fired and programs cut by DOGE.
Introduced the “Nuclear First Strike Security Act of 2025,” which provides Congress the means to check the President’s ability to conduct a nuclear first strike without oversight.
Joined Reps. Juan Vargas (CA-52), Sara Jacobs (CA-51), Mike Levin (CA-49), and U.S. Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA) to demand answers from Department of Homeland Security’s Kristi Noem after the militarized ICE raid at local restaurant, Buona Forchetta.
Collaborated with Rep. Gomez (CA-34) to oppose the deployment of the National Guard and Marines to Los Angeles.
Supported Rep. Panetta (CA-19) in opposing the Trump Administration’s decision to federalize the National Guard, arguing it violates rules around Guard deployment and the Posse Comitatus Act.
Joined Rep. Crow (CO-06) to express concern over the Trump Administration’s response to the shooting of Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe, as well as urging the administration to rescind policies that place collective blame on all Afghans for one man’s actions.
Supported Rep. Omar (MN-05) in expressing outrage at the Trump Administration’s false narratives regarding the shooting of Renee Good in Minneapolis and demand a full investigation of ICE following the incident.
Expressed disapproval at the Trump administration’s action to conduct a large-scale military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife without being able to justify this decision since Venezuela did not pose a security cost to the U.S. that would incite this reaction.
Voted against funding for ICE, stating that the Trump Administration has operationalized it as militarized force in our neighborhoods which has done nothing but elicit chaos and fear.
Condemned military action in Iran and highlighted the impacts conflict in the Middle East would have on San Diego military community. Emphasizes that there are many challenges here in the United States while war is being waged abroad when there was no imminent threat to the United States and Congressional authorization was not received nor have they been informed of the plan in attacking Iran.
Vocal advocate to hold the Trump Administration, Elon Musk, and DOGE accountable and demand transparency. I am not a member of the House Oversight Committee, but I strongly support their ongoing efforts to investigate, coordinate litigation strategies, and demand documentation from the Trump Administration.
Joined Rep. Ivey (MD-04) to demand the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was wrongfully deported to El Salvador, to the United States, despite having been granted protection from deportation by a United States immigration court.
Joined 93 house democrats in an amicus brief condemning President Trump’s outrageous lawsuit against the IRS, as well as the DOJ’s $1.88 billion slush fund settlement. The brief urges Judge Williams to dismiss the lawsuit for lack of jurisdiction.
