President Trump and Elon Musk’s efforts to drastically reduce or remake government agencies threatens the vital services and programs those agencies provide. Everyone should want to eliminate waste, fraud and abuse from our government. But the appropriate way to ensure taxpayer dollars are not misspent is by introducing thoughtful, commonsense legislation so Congress and the American people can weigh in. Please read below for regular updates on the work that House Democrats and I are doing to respond to these harmful actions.

  • Voted against the Republican budget which would cut hundreds of billions in funding to Medicaid, food assistance for families and seniors, and national parks. 

  • Joined over 200 House Democrats to file an amicus brief in defense of American consumers and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), which protects Americans from unfair, deceptive, and abusive corporate practices. 

  • Supported Rep. Larson’s (CT-01) letter opposing SSA's announcement intending to reduce the size of their workforce and close field offices across the country. 

  • Cosponsored Rep. Jahana Hayes’ (CT-05) Department of Education Protection Act to oppose any efforts to dismantle the agency and to ensure every student receives the free and appropriate public education they deserve. 

  • Worked with Rep. Ramirez (IL-03) to urge the Trump Administration to stop harmful cuts to Fair Housing Programs.  

  • Supported Rep. Titus’ (NV-01) effort to demand that the Administration reverse its decision to eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) agency, which provides critical support to libraries and museums nationwide. 

  • Joined over 200 House Democrats in filing an amicus brief against the blatant executive overreach and illegal dismantling of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), in the matter of American Foreign Service Association, et al. v. Trump, et al.   

  • Collaborated with Rep. Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) and members of the California Congressional Delegation to demand that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) reverse harmful federal program cancelations and freezes impacting state food banks and farmers.    

  • Worked with Senator Kaine (D-VA), Senator Gillibrand (D-NY), and Rep. Courtney (CT02) to oppose President Trump’s Executive Order which would limit eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program. This Executive Order targets borrowers who are employed by nonprofits that do not align with the Administrations hostile agenda. 

  • Supported Rep. Matsui’s (CA-07) effort to highlight serious concerns that the Trump Administration’s tariffs could threaten the supply chains of generic drugs and medical devices, which would risk dangerous shortages of these essential medical supplies.   

  • Joined Rep. Neguse (CO-02) and nearly 200 House Democrats to file an amicus brief challenging the Trump Administration’s efforts to close the Department of Education in the matter of the State of New York v. Linda Mc()Mahon.   

  • Supported Rep. Pappas (NH-01) in urging the Trump Administration to reverse the proposed cuts and fully fund the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program which provides coordination assistance to law enforcement agencies to intercept drug trafficking operations. 

  • Joined Rep. Bonamici (OR-01) in urging the Trump Administration to release High School Equivalency Program (HEP) and the College Assistant Migrant Program (CAMP) funds, which supports educational opportunities for students from agricultural farm worker families.  

  • Worked with Rep. Costa (CA-21) to demand for the restoration of funds to Minority-Serving Institutions after the Trump Administration rescinded $350 million.  

  • Joined Rep. Goldman (NY-10) and Rep. Crow (CO-06) in urging the Trump Administration to provide legal services for children in the custody and care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement to ensure they receive the legal services they are entitled to under the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. 

  • Co-sponsored bicameral Congressional Review Act to prevent President Trump and Secretary of Education Linda McMahon from restricting eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.  

  • Joined Rep. Balint (D-VA) in opposing two HHS rules attacking access to life-saving medical care for transgender youth. The rules ban hospitals from participating in Medicaid if they provide gender affirming care to anyone under 19 years old. 

  • Worked with Rep. Edwards (NC-11) and Rep. Panetta (CA-19) on a bipartisan and bicameral address to the DHS, urging them to reinstate the BRIC program to strengthen hazard mitigation and community soundness. Their efforts proved fruitful, with the program being re-instated within a year of his advocacy.
