I will do everything I can to keep San Diego informed on what’s happening in Washington and how House Democrats and I are fighting back in the courts, and in our communities to protect Americans. That includes town halls, meeting with community members, and speaking out against President Trump’s harmful and illegal actions. Please read below for regular updates on this work.

If you have been fired from your federal job, have stopped receiving federal funds to your organization or business, or have otherwise been affected by changes the Trump Administration has implemented, please share your story here. By sharing your voice, you can help me best represent San Diego in Congress.

  • Conducted a telephone town hall with Rep. Joe Neguse (CO-02) and Megha Patel from Democracy Forward to answer questions and provide updates on the ongoing legal and legislative efforts to protect the American people from the Administration’s unlawful actions. Listen to a recording here

  • Hosted a virtual town hall to answer questions and hear directly from San Diegans who have been affected by Republicans and the Trump Administration’s actions. A recording can be watched here

  • Hosted a press conference to discuss the importance of Medicaid and Republicans’ planned cuts to the program. Brought together hospital and community health center staff members, patients relying on Medicaid, long term care facility providers, labor union members, and local elected officials to share how cuts to Medicaid funding would devastate the care that nearly one in five people in CA50 rely on.

  • Publicly holding the Trump Administration accountable for attempts to enrich themselves or give special treatment to allies not available to ordinary Americans.

  • Met with staff at the San Diego LGBT Community Center and spoke about the Trump Administration's threats to cut more than $1 billion in funding for HIV prevention programs.

  • Publicly holding the Trump Administration accountable for attempts to enrich themselves or give special treatment to allies not available to ordinary Americans.

  • Demanded answers, along with Rep. Vargas (CA-52), from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem over the violent ICE Raid at Buona Forchetta in San Diego.

  • Hosted a roundtable with the San Diego Medical Community to discuss the Republican tax bill’s changes to student loans and increasing barriers to higher education.

  • Hosted a press conference with San Diego businesses and consumers to share how President Trump’s tariffs are hurting the economy and raising prices for hardworking Americans. A recording can be watched here

  • Hosted a virtual press conference to provide updates on budget negotiations and raise awareness for the consequences of the Republican shutdown on San Diegans. A recording can be watched here

  • Voiced my commitment to ensuring San Diegans and all communities are safe and not subject to ICE’s unchecked aggression during raids. ICE should not be allowed to tear families apart or kill people, including U.S. citizens.

  • Collaborated with Sen. Whitehouse (RI-01) to urge the European Union to maintain a robust and consistent implementation of the European Union Methane Regulation despite the attacks from the Trump Administration to safeguard worldwide climate progress and global energy security.

  • Convened local healthcare professionals at Scripps Mercy Hospital to discuss how healthcare providers and San Diegans are hurt by drastic cuts to Medicaid made in the Republicans’ Big Beautiful Bill and the January 1 expiration of Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies.

  • Voted against funding for ICE due to their excessive use of force and budget larger than the United States Marine Corps and many of the world’s militaries. Continues to push for strict limitations on ICE, especially through the introduction of the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act.

  • Joined Rep. Fernandez (NM-3) and the Democratic Women’s Caucus in a letter to Speaker Johnson urging him to not bring the amended Smithsonian American Women’s History Museum Act to the House floor unless restored to the bipartisan version. The Republican-adopted amendment gives President Trump control over the museum’s content and location.
