Joined my fellow co-chairs of the Special Operations Forces Caucus to welcome General Richard Clarke, Commander of @USSOCOM to our meeting. We discussed the Coastal Campus expansion project to improve training for Navy SEALs and support the Coronado community.
Visited @plantwpurpose in BayHo, where they help families around the world grow their own food sustainably. We discussed my approach to climate action, which includes reaching out to the religious community about our moral imperative to save the planet given to us by God.
We announced our bill, the Build More Housing Near Transit Act, which would require applicants to the FTA's New Starts program—which funds transit projects like commuter rail, light rail, and bus rapid transit—to include housing feasibility assessments in their proposal. It ensures a federal investment in a large-scale transit project has the potential to address our housing shortage, to mitigate our urgent climate crisis, and improve quality of life for our communities.
Visited the Vi to share our priorities in Congress with San Diego seniors including improving gun safety, curbing climate change, and protecting access to health care. I also reminded them our office can help navigate federal benefits and agencies.
Met with Temple Emanu-El Advocacy Committee to discuss gun violence prevention, climate crisis, immigration, healthcare, and homelessness. We agreed more civil discourse is needed and we must treat everyone with respect, regardless of politics.
Met with @humanrightscampaign last week to celebrate passage of the Equality Act and discuss how we can continue the fight for equality by advancing voting rights and ensuring access to PrEP.
Moderated a panel on the #ClimatePlaybook—our proposal for immediate legislative action on climate. We all agree that we have a moral obligation to act now on real, binding solutions to climate. @SDChamber #SDinDC
Joined @repsusandavis, @repmikelevin, and our special guest, @rep.peteaguilar to share how we're working for San Diego in Congress with @sdchamber. #SDinDC
Joined Up for Growth to discuss our bill, the Build More Housing Near Transit Act, which would ensure federal transit funding invests in communities prepared to build market-rate and affordable housing near transit.
There are critical steps we can take toward a clean energy economy, but real progress requires bipartisanship. I joined @politico.live to talk about the #ClimatePlaybook, which offers proposals from both sides of the aisle that Congress can act on now to curb climate change.
My colleagues and I heard from experts at a gun violence prevention forum, who explained why it's so urgent to pass gun safety measures. The House acted. The experts agree. So, why won’t Leader McConnell act to save lives? #DoSomething
We announced the introduction of the Super Pollutants Act, which aims to curb methane, black carbon, and HFCs—super pollutants, which are some of the most harmful pollutants in our atmosphere and much more potent than CO2. 🌎 Check out our story for a link with more info on the bill.
