Twenty Years After Tragedy, Rep. Peters Reflects on September 11 Terrorist Attacks
September 10, 2021
SAN DIEGO – Today, Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on the 9/11 attacks on our county. The horrific event that took nearly 3,000 lives in New York City, Arlington, Virginia, and Shanksville, Pennsylvania took place twenty years ago tomorrow.
“On this grim anniversary, it’s likely that we’ll rewatch images of destruction, helplessness, and grief on the faces of those who lived through this tragic event. While we will never forget the attacks 20 years ago that changed us forever, images of resiliency, heroism, and strength also live in our memory.
“I still recall the uncertainty I felt that morning as the terror attacks unfolded before our eyes on television. Terrorism took place thousands of miles away, but no one knew what lay ahead or if another city, including San Diego, was a target.
“On this day two decades later, we honor the lives lost and the countless ones that changed forever. I pray for the families of those who passed that day and in the fighting that ensued overseas as a result of this event. May they be uplifted by the memory of their loves ones.
“Moving forward, I hope our country can be a force for peace in the world. God bless all those we lost and their families and God bless America.”
