WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, President Joe Biden invited Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) to the White House for a signing ceremony to enact the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act, widely known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Framework (BIF). The package includes Rep. Peters’ POWER ON Act to help deploy more renewable energy.

“This law is going make a real difference in the daily lives of San Diegans, from improved roads and bridges to new, good-paying jobs to greater access to transit, broadband, safe drinking water and more. Funding will also shore up our national cyber and grid security, help reinforce the efficacy of our ports and keep us competitive against countries that have made major investments in infrastructure, including China,” said Rep. Peters. “This is a notable victory for bipartisanship—proof that Republicans and Democrats can come together to deliver for the American people. I was proud to watch the president sign this historic legislation into law today, and look forward to returning to work to push the Build Back Better Act across the finish line.”

The Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act, now law, provides massive investments to modernize the nation’s roads, bridges, railways, transit, energy systems, broadband, and other critical infrastructure projects to bring communities across America up to speed. For example, it increases funding six-fold for rail programs to support projects like improving passenger rail speeds on the LOSSAN corridor that connects San Diego to San Luis Obispo.

According to a fact sheet published by the White House, California is expected to receive:

• $9.45 billion to improve public transportation options across the state
• $3.5 billion to improve water infrastructure and ensure all communities can access clean, safe drinking water
• $84 million to protect against wildfires
• $384 million to build electric vehicle (EV) charging stations
• $100 million to provide broadband coverage across the state, including the at least 545,000 Californians who currently lack access to the internet
• $25.3 billion for highways
• $4.2 billion for bridge replacement and repairs
• $1.5 billion for airports to update infrastructure and help clear maintenance backlogs
• $40 million to protect against cyberattacks
