In Remarks to U.S.-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Group, Rep. Peters Focused on Urgent Need to Stop Tijuana Sewage Spills
October 29, 2019
Today, Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) released a copy of the remarks he delivered over the weekend at the 54th annual meeting of the U.S.-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Group led by Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX-28) and attended by Mexican lawmakers and members of Congress representing Texas and California. Rep. Peters opened a section of the meeting on border infrastructure and the environment, and chose to focus his remarks on the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) and the urgent need to address cross-border sewage.
“As a representative of a binational region, I am grateful for America’s long history of collaboration with Mexico, and I pledge my support to advancing it. I opened the session’s discussion on border infrastructure and the environment during this meeting of the U.S.-Mexico Inter-Parliamentary Group, and I took that opportunity to call attention to the urgent need to fix the sewage, sediment, and trash overflow from the Tijuana River into San Diego. We know our binational region succeeds when we work together. We must use the prosperity that USMCA will deliver to drive the solution to this public health and environmental crisis. I thank Speaker Pelosi and Congressman Cuellar for inviting me to participate,” said Rep. Peters.
