Rep. Peters Re-elected as New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement regarding his re-election as a New Democrat Coalition Vice Chair for the 117th Congress, appointed this time as the Vice Chair for Policy:
“The New Democrat Coalition is the largest Democratic caucus in Congress and will play an even bigger role in helping set the agenda under the incoming Biden Administration," said Rep. Peters. “With over 90 members, we prove the base of the Democratic party is far from the ‘socialist’ label it’s often incorrectly assigned. Our coalition supports the values of most Americans: it’s possible to make capitalism work better for everyone, take meaningful steps to fight climate change recognizing that people continue to drive to work and use gas stoves, fix our immigration laws and then enforce them, and change police culture to root out bad cops without being anti-police.”
Rep. Peters continued, “Our focus must remain on passing bills that can earn the support of both chambers and be signed into law by the president. If the legislation doesn't make it to his desk, we aren’t supporting the people who count on us to get through the most brutal public health and economic crisis of a lifetime. We must fight inequity, provide affordable health coverage, combat climate change and ensure that everyone has a shot at success. But we can't achieve any of this without finding common ground. In my new role, I’m going to push us to leverage our heft so we can break through Washington’s gridlock and achieve real progress for the people in this country who need their government to work.”
