We started off this week with several science and technology speaking engagements in the district as well as a site visit to our local Ferrell Gas company. We learned that these companies and organizations are doing some amazing cutting-edge work within the energy, health, and science & technology sectors.

UCSD's Energy Frontiers Research Center Re-Inaugural Event

On Monday, I had the pleasure of delivering welcome remarks at UC San Diego's Energy Frontiers Research Center. After receiving a renewed award from the Department of Energy, UC San Diego celebrated the launch of "Quantum Materials for Energy Efficient Neuromorphic Computing" (QMEENC 2.0).
This event featured leading figures in neuromorphic computing as well as students, faculty, and UC San Diego leadership to discuss this exciting field of research. It was a privilege to be a part of this celebration and partnership between the Department of Energy and UC San Diego.

This Week's Casework Success Story
Shirley of Poway and her husband, a retired US Marine, contacted my office last month requesting assistance with reimbursements for prescriptions covered by Tricare. Shirley submitted multiple claims with the required receipts and documentation, but never received correspondence or resolution regarding her claim. Our office submitted an inquiry to the Department of Health regarding Tricare and the contractor. Tricare then requested further assistance from the Department of Defense (DoD) After a week, a specialist from the DoD's Client Support Center notified Shirley that her reimbursements would be deposited into her account within 7-10 business days. Shirley appreciates all the assistance that our office was able to provide her
Town Hall at Tavere Therapeutics
On Tuesday, I provided remarks during a town hall at Tavere Therapeutics, a biopharmaceutical company in San Diego. I met the company's leadership and spoke with employees about the state of diagnostics, rare diseases, and accelerated approval for specific therapies. Tavere Therapeutics has grown steadily over the years and now has 500 employees in San Diego.

Needs
On Wednesday, I visited Ferrell Gas to understand propane operations and their role in the homes of my district.
Ferrell Gas staff also shared valuable insights about current energy needs during my visit. Notably, in my district there are more than 2,417 homes that are primarily heated by propane gas, or 1% of all homes in the district. It's important to have a clear picture of these statistics as we keep investing in cleaner energies for the future.
