Dear friend,

I look forward to traveling back to Washington, D.C. next week to serve you as the House is back in session after the August recess.

We may continue to see strong winds and rain from Tropical Storm Kay that will be potentially hazardous to our region. To know more about how to prepare and plan in case of an emergency, visit readysandiego.org.

Below is another update on the work my staff and I have done recently to serve you.

This Week's Casework Success Story

Kennan from downtown San Diego contacted my office in June to request assistance with the Small Business Administration (SBA). He had signed loan documents to apply for an economic injury disaster loan, but Kennan never received the funds. He was concerned that all resources for the program were expended, so my staff worked with Kennan to submit documents for review and request an update. Two weeks ago, Kennan received a $146,600 increase to his economic injury disaster loan.

Connecting SBA Administrator Guzmán to San Diego Small Business Owners

On Wednesday, I welcomed Small Business Administrator Isabella Guzmán to San Diego. We held a roundtable discussion with local small business owners to hear about their challenges during COVID-19, discussed available SBA services and resources to help small businesses, and Congress' role in this effort. I want to thank the Asian Business Association for hosting this event and Administrator Guzmán for including San Diego on her nationwide tour.

Hearing the Latest on the Monkeypox Outbreak

On Tuesday, Rep. Sara Jacobs (CA-53) and I hosted a virtual town hall on the Monkeypox outbreak. Our experts from County of San Diego's Health & Human Services Agency and UC San Diego Health answered questions from attendees and provided the latest data trends from San Diego and around the world. We also heard from the CEO of San Diego's LGBT Community Center about the harmful stigma associated with this virus. Thank you to all our panelists for participating!

Roundtable on Combatting Antisemitism

Last Friday, I spoke at a roundtable discussion on antisemitism at the Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center. Members of local Jewish groups and organizations also participated in this event. We discussed how antisemitism is impacting the local San Diego Jewish community and discussed ways to effectively combat this disturbing trend.
