Dear friend,

This week, I returned to Washington D.C. to vote for the Inflation Reduction Act. This legislation, which passed through the reconciliation process, includes historic investments in clean energy and climate, provisions to reduce our deficit, and a drug pricing plan based on a framework I introduced last year. It took hard work, negotiations, and setbacks to pass this bill, but we finally got this done!

President Biden also signed the PACT Act into law this week, which expands VA health care and benefits for veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances.

Below is another update on the work my staff and I have done recently to serve you.

This Week's Casework Success Story

Ruby of San Diego reached out to our office earlier this month concerning backpay from Social Security. When she became her niece's legal guardian, she requested to receive Social Security payments on behalf of her niece. Ruby also noted that the payments were being disbursed to the incorrect payee. With the help of our office, we were able to help Ruby and her niece get the $9,138 they were owed.

Visiting San Diego's Second Airport

I visited the Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport facility near Clairemont. The staff and I discussed the significance and history of this airport, as well as staffing and funding challenges. Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport serves as a reliever airport in San Diego and allows private, air ambulance, law enforcement, fire rescue, flight training, and cargo aircrafts to operate. I thank the Montgomery-Gibbs staff for having me and showing me around the facilities.

Recognizing CA-52's Youth

This week, I also met Anush Salaniwal who was awarded the silver medal from the Congressional Award for his community service. This award recognizes our country's young people for their initiative, service, and achievement. Anush, a student of Scripps Ranch High School, talked to me about his work to support schools in India and his efforts to interview local leaders, among other accomplishments. Congratulations, Anush!

Visiting Kendall Frost Marsh Reserve

Image removed.

I met with the San Diego Audubon Society at Kendall-Frost Marsh Reserve in Pacific Beach to learn about the society's project, ReWild Mission Bay. The project aims to preserve and restore Mission Bay natural wetlands by integrating Native American perspectives and scientific research to ensure the marsh's survival. Marshes help remove greenhouse gases from the atmosphere and sequester them in the soil. I enjoyed learning about this project and how it fits within San Diego's climate plan.
