Dear friend,
I continue my work in San Diego during district work period. As we approach Election Day, more information on registration and voting options can be found on the San Diego County Registrar of Voters website.
If you or a loved one receive Social Security benefits, the latest cost of living adjustment will raise monthly payments by 8.7% starting next year. That is the largest increase in over 40 years! Learn more here.
Below is another update on the work my staff and I have done recently to serve you.
This Week's Casework Success Story
Larry from La Jolla contacted my office in August to request assistance with his 2021 tax refund due to him and his wife. Since the couple is retired and living on fixed income, they expected the refund to cover many expenses. My staff worked with Larry to provide copies of tax and identifying documents to IRS. The IRS representatives determined there was an error related to Larry's full name. The error was corrected this week and Larry received his refund for over $6,500.
"We received notification from our bank that the check from the IRS has been received. Thank you and Congressman Peters for the outstanding support and help in correcting this problem. Very much appreciated!"

How Policies Enacted by Congressional Democrats and President Biden Benefit CA-52 Residents
In the 117th Congress, Congressional Democrats and President Biden have enacted the American Rescue Plan, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Inflation Reduction Act, CHIPS and Science Act and student loan relief—that will lower costs for residents in CA-52, support businesses and promote economic growth.
Did you know 9,600 applications to start a new business were filed in CA-52 in 2021? An average of 6,600 applications per year were filed pre-pandemic.
Staff Visit to Carlsbad Desalination Plant
On Tuesday, my staff and I visited the Claude "Bud" Lewis Carlsbad Desalination Plant. During this tour, we learned about the plant's operations and capacity, and how desalination plays a role in our region's water supply. Each day, this plant delivers nearly 50 million gallons of fresh, desalinated water to San Diego County. And it only takes one hour for sea water to be turned into clean and potable water!
Meeting with Landscape Architects to Advance Climate Solutions
Earlier this month, I met with members of the San Diego chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. We spoke about solutions to the urban heat island effect, reducing water use, and funds in the Inflation Reduction Act that could be useful to create resilient communities and how landscape architects can plan and design these projects.
If you have any questions, comments, concerns, or need assistance with a federal agency, reach out to us through our website or by calling the district office at 858-455-5550.
