Congressman Peters Promotes Veterans at Local Events
SAN DIEGO, CA – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) continued his commitment to honoring and supporting veterans in San Diego during several events as part of the lead into Veterans’ Day weekend.
This morning, he kicked off the ‘Honor a Hero, Hire a Veteran’ Job and Resource Fair at the Valley View Casino Center in Pt. Loma. At the event he heard from and thanked businesses looking to hire local veterans. Following, in his district office, Rep. Peters honored the service and dedication of Ret. Adm. Ronne Froman by presenting her with the Civilian Marksmanship Program’s ‘Patriot Award.’ Finally, he dedicated the University of California at San Diego’s new Veterans’ Center, commending the University for committing to serve students who are either active duty or veterans during his remarks.
“It was an honor to be part of today’s events as I continue working hard to support our nation’s veterans and their families,” Congressman Peters said. “The job fair this morning and UCSD’s new Veterans’ Resource Center are what we need more of as we provide opportunities for these proven leaders to use their skills as they transition to civilian life. Further, I was proud to present Rear Admiral Froman with this much-deserved award that recognizes her tireless commitment to our local veteran community and our country. Her leadership has dramatically improved the San Diego region’s ability to provide necessary and useful resources to veterans and active-duty servicemembers.”
Rep. Peters has been a consistent advocate for veterans both as a member of the House Armed Services Committee and by helping veterans receive due benefits and transition to civilian life. To date, his San Diego office has helped local veterans and their families obtain more than $400,000 in backlogged earned benefits. Earlier this year, he helped launch the Military Transition Support Project, a collaborative community effort to help the transition of recently discharged veterans into civilian life and employment.
