Rep. Peters Announces Important Information about Increased Veterans Health Care Choices
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) announced important information about the new Veterans Choice Program, which gives veterans more options and more timely access to the health care they’ve been promised for their service to our nation. The Department of Veterans Affairs is in the midst of implementing the Veterans Choice Program, as required by the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act. Congressman Peters helped pass that major reform to the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) earlier this year.
The Veterans Choice Program will allow qualifying veterans to see providers outside the VA healthcare system to ensure they receive high-quality, timely health care.
“As the Department of Veterans Affairs continues to implement the much needed reforms that Congress passed, this program will allow veterans to more efficiently receive the care they deserve,” said Rep. Peters. “Now we must get the information out there, so that our veterans are aware that these programs are available.”
The VA has sent Veterans Choice Cards to veterans who have met the preliminary eligibility requirement. However, veterans who receive a card must still call the VA Veterans Choice Program at 866-606-8198 to verify that they are approved.
To participate in the program veterans must meet the requirements summarized here and follow the guidelines of the program described here.
Peters encouraged veterans to call their Member of Congress if they need assistance.
