Rep. Peters Speaks Out for Women’s Access to Birth Control
March 25, 2014
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) spoke on the floor of the House of Representatives about the Hobby Lobby case, which began oral arguments at the Supreme Court this morning. In addition he spoke on the steps of the Supreme Court as part of a rally with advocates and supporters, including many from San Diego, of the effort to maintain access to birth control for women. He also joined a press conference with colleagues from the Pro-Choice Caucus to highlight his continued fight for women’s reproductive rights.
“In 2014, the idea that a woman has to fight for access to birth control is astonishing,” Rep. Peters said. “A woman should not have to choose between her job and her health. As a husband of nearly 28 years, and a father of 2, it seems pretty clear to me: women, not bosses, should be in charge of their personal health care decisions.”

At issue in the Hobby Lobby case is whether a private, for-profit company can deny coverage for contraceptives to its employees because of the company owner’s private religious objections.
