I am horrified by the deaths of these brave aid workers and send my condolences to their loved ones. While Israel has the right to defend itself, incidents like this are unacceptable. We need more humanitarian aid — we cannot have that if aid workers are under threat.

I reiterate my call for more humanitarian aid, for Hamas to lay down its arms and release all hostages, and for Israel in turn to end the fighting so Palestinians can return to their homes. All of us should recommit toward peace in the region.
