Congressman Peters’ Statement on FY2013 Continuing Resolution

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on his vote on FY2013 Continuing Resolution.

“I have long advocated for agencies to have the flexibility they need to function efficiently and effectively. The continuing resolution that we voted on today is not an ideal solution. In fact, I was disappointed that my proposed amendment to strike the sequestration language from the bill failed.  The department of defense will still be hurt by the sequester, but the bill updates the department’s funding levels and gives the department the freedom to impose the cuts of the sequester in a more targeted and strategic way. With defense spending responsible for 25% of San Diego’s GDP, and 1 out of 4 jobs in San Diego related to the defense industry, it would be irresponsible for me not to act. I’ve realized that progress is slow in Washington. It’s even slower when we cling to party ideology and won’t accept legislation that we do not view as perfect.”
