WASHINGTON, D.C. — Representative Scott Peters (CA-50) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court’s extreme decision in Trump v. United States today:

“As we gear up to commemorate our nation’s bold move away from the rule of a king, it is cruelly ironic that this court has moved us toward the rule of one person. The Supreme Court's decision excuses President Trump’s corrupt use of power and would allow any future president to abuse their office with no check or balance. While the special counsel’s case continues and some avenues remain for him to successfully prosecute President Trump’s crimes, justice delayed is justice denied. It is unacceptable that this case was decided with the participation of two justices who, at the very least, have a strong appearance of bias and should have recused themselves. I will continue to fight alongside my Democratic colleagues to impose an enforceable code of ethics on the Supreme Court, just like we have for every other court in America.”
