Rep. Peters' Statement on Iran Attacks and Path Forward on Foreign and Humanitarian Aid
April 16, 2024
My prayers go out to the Israeli people, particularly 7-year-old Amina al-Hasoni and her family, who are recovering from Iran’s unprecedented attack on Israel this past weekend. For too long, Iran has been a destabilizing force in the region, sponsoring known terrorist groups such as Hamas, Hezbollah, and the Houthis in Yemen. The swift response led by President Biden in conjunction with our British, Jordanian, and other regional partners saved countless lives and showed that the world is losing its patience with the Iranian regime.
Now, it’s time for the House to act. We must provide our allies in Israel and Ukraine with the military and financial support they need to respond to the threat posed by Iran, its proxies, and Russia, along with desperately needed humanitarian aid for the Palestinians suffering in Gaza. Providing these funds not only helps protect our allies, but also supports America’s interests abroad. I encourage my Republican colleagues to dispense with political gimmicks that do not meet the threat, and bring up the Senate-passed supplemental bill to aid Israel, Ukraine, and other partners in their struggle against our mutual adversaries.
