Dear Friend, President Trump announced he will ban transgender individuals from serving in the U.S. military. Thousands of transgender Americans currently serve honorably and openly in our Armed Forces. It’s unclear how our servicemembers will be treated under this new policy, but it is clear that this ban will turn away brave, qualified men and women who want to serve their country. As your representative, I’d like to know where you stand. Share your thoughts and join my email updates: Should the United States continue to allow transgender Americans to serve openly in our military? Yes, we should allow them to serve. No, we should not allow them to serve. I’m not sure. I filed an amendment to the defense spending bill to block the President from using funds to enforce this discriminatory ban from going into effect. Unfortunately, some of my colleagues opposed letting the House vote on my amendment instead of having the courage to fight for the men and women brave enough to fight for us. Congress needs to stand up to backward policies, trust our military leaders, and put national security first. At a time when we face new and dynamic threats, we shouldn’t be mixing politics with national security.
Sincerely,
