Dear Friend,

As you may know, some of my colleagues have discussed bills to repeal the Affordable Care Act. While I recognize that the law is not perfect, we cannot rip the rug out from millions of Americans who have gained health care coverage or go back to a time where Americans can be denied coverage because of a pre-existing condition.

A study by Health Access California found the ACA—through Covered California— provided health insurance to 1.4 million people, while the Medicaid expansion provided coverage for an additional 3.7 million people last year. In San Diego County, the same study found more than 128,000 people signed up or renewed their health care plan during the most recent open-enrollment period.

I'd like to hear from San Diegans on this directly. Take part in my survey to share your thoughts and join my email updates.

Which of the following statements best describes your feelings on the Affordable Care Act?

  • We should keep the ACA the way it is.
  • We should do away with the ACA entirely.
  • We should keep the parts of the ACA that work, and fix the ones that don't.

I have urged Speaker Ryan to work with us to make constructive, fiscally responsible improvements to the Affordable Care Act that reduce costs for families, invest in preventative care, increase choices for consumers, and reduce the burden on small businesses.

We can't simply do away with a law that is helping millions of Americans across the country, so we'll continue working together towards a health care system that works for everyone.

Sincerely,
