This week I introduced two bipartisan bills: 1) the Veterans Claims Education Act, which will educate veterans to limit the ability of predatory companies to unfairly profit off veterans, and 2) the Hydrogen Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act, which will help kickstart the hydrogen economy in Southern California.

On Sunday, I had the privilege of providing opening remarks at the Miramar Air Show Opening Ceremony. Monday, we held a Service Academy Information Night discussing ways to get involved with the armed forces and national service academies. Earlier this week, I provided opening remarks at the Brookings' City Climate Planning Event highlighting local governments' leadership on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

This Week's Casework Success Story

Makenna from San Diego had a disability hearing in December 2021 with the Social Security Administration (SSA). She reached out to our office in February 2022 because her case was still pending as "Post hearing development". Our office then got in contact with the SSA and was able to move her case from "Post hearing development" to successfully closing it. We received confirmation that Makenna got $5,269 in backpay. Additionally, because of her benefits started in October, she will receive an addition $1,303 each month, totaling $20,905.

Service Academy & ROTC Informational Night

During our informational night on Monday, we heard from admissions counselors from each Service Academy and college ROTC programs. Staff and academy/ROTC representatives answered questions from interested applicants and their families. 

Westview High Named 2022 National Blue Ribbon School

On Wednesday, our office presented a proclamation to Westview High School for being the only school in San Diego County to receive the 2022 National Blue Ribbon Schools award, and one of only 29 schools named in California. Westview High School is located in the Poway Unified School District.

Brookings' Climate Event on Accelerating City Climate Planning and Action in the Current Federal Moment

On Tuesday, Brookings Metro hosted an event to examine how city leaders can accelerate climate planning and action in the current era of historic federal investment. I provided opening remarks and focused on implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act, and how federal leaders can work with states and metro areas to reduce emissions and address climate change.

Miramar Air Show Opening Ceremony

It was an honor to be a part of this year's show that hosted close to 500,000 spectators. The Marine Corps Air Station Miramar Air Show is the largest military air show in the country and one of the largest and greatest air shows in the world. 

This year's large audience was a testament to the unmatched community support from San Diegans for our marines, sailors, and veterans.
