January 6, 2023

Friend,

As Congress grapples with electing a new Speaker of the House, Democrats remain united and eager to get to work for the American people. I trust Rep. Jeffries' leadership to guide our party, and I will continue to work with all my colleagues in Congress to get meaningful legislation passed for the people I was elected to represent. Here’s to a productive 2023 and 118th session of Congress!

This Week's Casework Success Story

A small business in central San Diego contacted my office in September to request assistance with processing an Employee Retention Tax Credit. Their paperwork was filed in March of last year, but the IRS had not sent any further updates. My staff worked with the company and the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service to verify all necessary documents were received. It was determined that no further documentation was needed for the IRS to process the credit. My staff continuously followed up with the IRS to ensure processing was taking place. Last week, the company received their 2021 refund for $494,910.43

Two Years Since Attack on the U.S. Capitol

This morning, I joined my fellow members of Congress for a bipartisan moment of reflection commemorating two years since the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol. We recognized those officers who gave their lives defending our country and our democracy. The memory of this day will cast a shadow on our history forever, but the strength our democracy prevailed two years ago. This is why I supported a resolution to designate January 6th as "Democracy Day." May we never forget what we almost lost that day.

Inflation Reduction Act Benefits

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act signed into law last August, Americans are already saving money on health care costs starting this week. Seniors living on fixed incomes are not paying over $35 for monthly doses of insulin.

As we embrace the path to a clean energy future, families will also save money on utility bills, get support to buy electric vehicles and energy-saving appliances, and more. Click here to learn more about the most significant climate action laws in history.
