February 2023 Grants Update

This newsletter is a summary of federal funding announcements to inform constituents of California's 50th Congressional District of funding opportunities offered by various federal agencies.

To learn more about how to apply for these federal grants, visit Congressman Peters' website. You will find both public and private sources of funding and learn how to improve your application for grants from federal agencies.

For more on federal grant opportunities, pending grant applications, or to receive assistance with letters of support, please contact Rachel Dugan at Rachel.Dugan@mail.house.gov or call 858-455-5550. If you would like to sign up for Congressman Peters' general e-Newsletter, which includes updates on our work in Washington, D.C. and San Diego, visit our website.

Recent Federal Funding Awarded in the 50th Congressional District

- UC San Diego received $686,723 to conduct clinical research related to neurological disorders.

- The Veterans Medical Research Foundation was awarded $437,567 to conduct diabetes, endocrinology and metabolic research.

- St. Vincent De Paul Inc received $73,741 to expand San Diego's COVID-19 vaccination rate.

Before You Apply

Since not all federal grant-making agencies list grant opportunities each month, you are encouraged to visit grants.gov, the federal web site where you can electronically find and apply for current competitive grant opportunities from all federal grant-making agencies. Users may sign up to receive updates on new grant postings via email as soon as they become available. Before you apply for a grant, you must complete the registration process. We encourage you to register early since this process can take anywhere from three business days to four weeks.

Please refer to the Organization Registration Checklist for extra assistance with the registration process. Registering with the System for Award Management (SAM) is completely free of charge; there is no fee to register or renew/update your organization's information.

Our office may provide a letter of support for your federal grant application, and can work with the granting entity to answer any questions you may have. If you are unsuccessful in securing a grant, our office may obtain information from the granting agency that can be used to increase the likelihood of future success. Lastly, if you run into challenges in the use of or administering of the grant, our office may be able to help.
