Rep. Peters Votes to Protect Seniors’ Access to Their Doctors

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after voting for legislation that ensures seniors on Medicare can continue to see their current doctors by repealing the broken Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) and replacing it with a more effective alternative.

“Our seniors depend on the Medicare they've earned for their health and well-being and we must protect it. I voted for today's bill because we must permanently fix the current Medicare reimbursement formula so it remains a reliable, good-quality option for seniors, physicians, and hospitals,” Rep. Peters said.

“However, I am extremely disappointed that House Republican leadership chose to play partisan politics with the health of our seniors. The path they chose -- which they know will not be taken up in the Senate and that the President has said he will veto -- puts seniors at risk of losing access to their doctors on April 1. I have called on Senators Feinstein and Boxer to work on a bipartisan level in the Senate to find a better way to pay for this needed change."
