Rep. Peters: With President Trump The Russian ‘Ruble Stops Here’

Rep. Scott Peters said Tuesday the resignation of President Trump’s national security advisor raises troubling questions about Trump’s relationship with Russia.

Former general Michael Flynn resigned late Monday after it was revealed that he discussed sanctions relief with Russia while he was still a civilian and then allegedly lied about it.

“Did the White House intentionally mislead the America people about Flynn’s connections to Russia? And under whose authority was Flynn talking to the Russians about sanctions relief in the first place after we knew they attacked our democracy? Making Flynn the scapegoat doesn’t answer these questions,” said Peters.

Recalling President Harry Truman’s famous dictum that “the buck stops here,” Peters blasted Trump’s handling of the incident.

“The ruble stops here. The American people deserve answers from President Trump himself. And if he doesn’t give them, then Congress must go get them,” said Peters, a Democrat who represents Coronado, much of the City of San Diego and Poway.

Rep. Susan Davis echoed Peters’ concerns. “Congress has a responsibility to follow all the threads to reveal what this means to our national security and our democracy,” said Davis, whose district covers parts of San Diego, Spring Valley, La Mesa, El Cajon, Chula Vista and Lemon Grove.
