Celebrating innovation: Last fall, Rep. Scott Peters, D-S.D., introduced a resolution designating the third Tuesday of November as “National Entrepreneurs Day.” He singled out Duane Roth, the CEO of Connect, a business pioneer who had died tragically that August in a cycling mishap.

This Tuesday marked the second anniversary of the special day lauding innovators. Peters and fellow members of the House New Democratic Coalition joined in a “tweet” storm touting National Entrepreneurs Day.

Having just narrowly won re-election over Republican opponent Carl DeMaio, the San Diego Congressman wisely stressed the need “to remove unnecessary regulations that bog down innovators.”

Fresh ideas: The avocados Raoul Lowery Contreras recently bought at a local Costco came, not from Fallbrook or anywhere in Southern California, but from New Zealand, more than 6,000 miles overseas. The previous batch he bought was from Peru.

“What is this world coming to?” Contreras wonders.

Diet tip? Speaking of Peru, when Darlene Shiley recently returned from an around-the-world getaway looking decidedly slimmer, the local philanthropist gave full credit to having tried the Peruvian diet.

After arriving there to visit the ancient Incan site of Machu Picchu, she became so ill she dropped 20 pounds in just four days. It surely is not a diet Dr. Oz will be recommending.
