Today, U.S. Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) issued the following statement on the shooting last night at the La Jolla Crossroads apartment complex:

“I extend my deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim who lost her life last night in this senseless act of violence. I am praying for peace for her family, and for the full and speedy recovery of the others who were injured.

“It’s especially awful to think that such a brutal attack can happen at a birthday party in the heart of our community. This is a tragic reminder that even a city as prosperous and peaceful as San Diego is not immune to senseless acts of violence such as this.

“The true spirit of San Diego is reflected not in this attack, but in what followed: brave police officers and first responders swiftly confronting danger to prevent further tragedy, friends and neighbors coming to each other’s aid. That is the San Diego that I know and love.”
