Rep. Peters: Reform Immigration, Don’t Deport Families

Rep. Scott Peters called for comprehensive immigration reform Thursday and rejected the idea of deporting undocumented immigrants who have American-born children.
Speaking on the floor of the House of Representatives, Peters opposed an an effort by the House to back the state of Texas in its challenge to the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans program. The issue is currently before the Supreme Court.
“It’s unrealistic and unreasonable to expect that we would deport millions of people who have built lives and raised their families in the United States,” Peters said. “The majority of Americans and groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the AFL-CIO support comprehensive immigration reform because it would grow our economy and create jobs.”
Peters represents the 52nd District, which covers La Jolla, Coronado, Poway and large portions of the City of San Diego.
