With tax season under way, Rep. Scott Peters, D-San Diego, is urging people who may need help completing the required forms to use the IRS’s free Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
The program uses IRS-certified volunteers around the country to help people who make less than $54,000, or are disabled, or have limited English proficiency prepare their tax returns with electronic filing.
The volunteers can also help people determine their eligibility for the Earned Income Tax Credit, the Child Tax Credit and other credits. For more information about the service and to find locations in the San Diego area, call 2-1-1 or Peters’ office at (858) 455-5550, or visit www.IRS.gov and search for “VITA.”
