Rep. Peters Votes Against Partisan, Political Gimmick
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 4138, legislation which would upend the American legal system by allowing either Chamber of Congress to file a lawsuit, and see it expedited, against any federal official they deem non-compliant in implementing federal law, including the President.
“Not only is this bill unconstitutional but it is a total waste of Congressional time and taxpayer dollars,” Rep. Peters said. “In San Diego we saw last decade how quickly the process of bipartisan governance can grind to a halt when government turns from legislating to litigating. Today’s legislation is an idiotic and overtly partisan gimmick. No wonder so many Americans are disillusioned with Congress and our legislative process. With so much important work to do be done – immigration, tax reform, national defense, and economic growth -- Speaker Boehner lets the Tea Party push this nonsense to the floor?”
