Congressman Peters’ Statement on President Obama Selecting San Diego to Help Lead Effort to Map Human Brain
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on President Obama selecting San Diego to help lead the effort to map the human brain.
“San Diego has long been known for our world renowned scientists, research institutes and STEM programs at our universities. The president’s announcement this morning recognizing San Diego’s scientists and engineers for their achievements in the cognitive sciences, and selecting them to undertake the daunting task of mapping the human brain, is a testament to the abilities of San Diego’s scientific research community. Since taking office, I have been an outspoken advocate for scientific funding that will help San Diego stay a leader in science and support our ranking as the second largest life sciences cluster in America. It is critical that America fosters the talent that we already have so we stay globally competitive and don’t fall behind. I’d like to congratulate our science community on this honor, and I will continue fighting in Congress to ensure that our best and brightest have the resources they need to pursue science here and not abroad.”
