Congressman Peters’ Statement on San Diegans United for Common Sense Immigration Reform
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement on the formation of a new citizens movement called San Diegans United for Common Sense Immigration Reform:
“The announcement of San Diegans United for Common Sense Immigration Reform, shows that here in San Diego, we know how to work together – Republicans and Democrats, business and labor – to get things done.
I applaud the founders of this coalition, including my friends Nathan Fletcher and Irwin Jacobs, for coming together to advocate for a tough, fair border policy.
San Diegans know we must secure our border, and we need to do it in a way that takes advantage of the economic opportunities our border provides. We need a border that protects against terrorism and stops illegal activity and trafficking, while allowing us to better enable legal commerce, trade and the cultural exchange that enriches communities on both sides. We want an immigration policy that allows talented workers who are educated here to stay and provide the skilled workforce that drives our innovation economy.
I look forward to working with this new coalition and with my colleagues in Washington on a long overdue immigration reform plan that accomplishes these goals in a tough, fair, smart and compassionate way.”
