UT - Duane Roth inspired push for National Entrepreneurs Day
November 21, 2013
Diane Bell - Duane Roth, who worked, and networked, for years to promote San Diego’s innovation economy, has inspired the move to create a national day honoring entrepreneurs.
National Entrepreneurs Day, proposed for the third Tuesday of each November, is the subject of a resolution introduced in Congress Tuesday by San Diego Rep. Scott Peters, joined by Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., and lauded by New Democrat Coalition colleagues.
In a Huffington Post op-ed, Peters cited Roth, the visionary CEO of San Diego Connect, as his inspiration. Roth was fatally injured in a cycling accident in June.
Peters urged Congress to nurture the entrepreneurial spirit that has made America great by undertaking immigration reform, restructuring tax laws and boosting federal investment in science, technology and research.
Capitol Hill was all atwitter Tuesday as the idea of National Entrepreneurs Day circulated. The new #EntrepreneursDay subject even topped Washington's Twitter trending list.
