Congressman Peters’ Statement on the Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after the federal government shutdown at midnight last night:
"I am extremely disappointed that the Majority party and its leadership would shut down the government for any amount of time, because they’ve allowed the Tea Party faction to rule and win the day. It is unacceptable; real people and families count on many of the services the federal government provides. For this reason, and because I think a shutdown is wrong, my staff and I will continue to work, and in fact be working extended hours, to try to find solutions to this mess and to serve our constituents."
"Over the next few days I will continue to meet with those of my colleagues who are willing to work for solutions; reasonable people can disagree, but in the end, we have a job to do, and I continue to believe that if we don't pass a budget, we shouldn't get paid."
Peters added that a list of federal government services and agencies affected by the shutdown can be found on his website, or by calling either of his offices.
