Rep. Peters, Military Leaders, and Veterans Advocates Announce Military Transition Support Project
Culminates year of planning and coordination with local stakeholders
SAN DIEGO, CA – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) joined with local military leaders, veterans advocates, and private-sector stakeholders to launch the Military Transition Support Project (MTSP), a collaborative community effort to help the transition of recently discharged veterans into civilian life and employment.
“This collaborative effort will improve the quality of life for servicemembers across San Diego as they return to civilian life,” Rep. Peters said. “Providing a central portal for benefits, employment, and housing will help simplify the process and get these dedicated, disciplined men and women into new jobs -- benefiting our local business community and utilizing the unique skills these individuals possess.”
Background on the Military Transition Support Project:
Early last year, Rep. Peters met with local advocates to find out how to best leverage his new role to support San Diego’s transitioning servicemembers and veterans. The consensus among these leaders was that while San Diego is home to some of the best organizations and services for veterans, it needed a centrally coordinated hub for transitioning servicemembers to find services, job training, and employment opportunities. MTSP is the product of these initial discussions and nearly a year of planning.
Rep. Peters has worked closely with Rear Admiral (Ret.) Ronne Froman, leaders from the San Diego Veterans Coalition, San Diego Military Family Collaborative, San Diego Military Advisory Council, San Diego Grantmakers, local representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Navy, and Marine Corps, and other stakeholders to lay out the plan for a one-year pilot project to create a centrally coordinated system to help servicemembers navigate through the transition process.

Congressman Peters serves the 52nd District of California which covers much of central San Diego County including Poway, Coronado, and large portions of the City of San Diego. He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and has been a consistent advocate for veterans both as a member of the House Armed Services Committee and by helping veterans receive due benefits and transition to civilian life. To date, his San Diego office has helped local veterans and their families obtain more than $500,000 in backlogged earned benefits.
