Rep. Peters Decries Time Wasted on Lawsuit to Sue the President

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after voting against H. Res. 676, which authorized a precedent-setting lawsuit against the Executive Branch, including the President.

“Today, House Republicans voted to sue the President of the United States for delaying the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, a law the Republicans themselves are trying to delay and even eliminate. The profound irony of this would be amusing if there were nothing else to do here in our nation’s capital. But it’s not funny. It is a completely political waste of America’s time and money. It diverts attention from important undone business, including funding the government past September 30 and avoiding another government shutdown, fighting and preventing wildfires that are burning the western states today, forging a bipartisan solution to today’s border crisis, passing comprehensive immigration reform, and fixing the broken tax code to make our country more competitive. With members of Congress about to go home for five weeks, the fact that our docket is blemished with this political ploy is shameful, and one of the reasons Congressional approval is at an all-time low.”
