Washington, DC – Today, Representatives Scott Peters (CA-50) released the following statement after voting to provide assistance to our partners in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan and fund humanitarian assistance for Palestinians in Gaza:

“For months, America unnecessarily ceded our global leadership in the fights against fascism, dictatorship, and terrorism due to politics. Thankfully, today, a bipartisan majority in the House decided to put politics aside and reclaim our position in the world. These funds will protect Israel from attacks like those inflicted by Hamas and Iran, provide desperately needed humanitarian aid for Palestinian civilians in Gaza, supply critical military assistance for Ukraine in its fight against Russia, and bolster the military readiness of Taiwan and related partners in the Asia-Pacific. These funds will not only support our partners, but also advance America’s national security interests abroad.

“I would have not voted for the security assistance to Israel if it did not include desperately needed humanitarian aid for the innocent civilian population of Gaza. I, like most, want to see the hostages returned and the fighting in Gaza to end. Along with the assistance we voted for today, America must remain engaged in the diplomatic effort to reach these goals and bring about lasting peace in the region.”
