The event focused on the challenges women face while finding a work-life balance, working full-time while caring for children or aging parents, or when seeking to re-enter the workforce.

Since arriving in Congress, Rep. Peters has been a constant advocate for servicemembers, veterans, and the families that support them. One of his first pieces of legislation, H.R. 1714 – the Shelter Our Servicemembers (SOS) Act, is aimed at reducing the population of elderly homeless veterans. He also brought together military commanders, non-profit organizations, and veterans’ community leaders to start the Military Transition Support Project (MTSP), which will create a central portal for new veterans to access information on benefits, housing, and employment.

The “Student Loan Repayment Assistance Act” is just a piece of Rep. Peters’ ongoing work to reduce the burden of student loans on American families. Earlier this year he introduced the bicameral “Federal Student Loan Refinancing Act” with Rep. Mark Pocan (WI-02) and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY). He was also vocal in the successful effort to stop federal student loan interest rates from doubling last summer.
