Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) released the following statement after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced there would be a 1.5 percent cost-of-living increase for veterans, families, and survivors receiving disability compensation and pension benefits through the VA. Peters is also a cosponsor of two pieces of legislation that support the same action taken by the VA today.

Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) honored his commitment to donating to charity the pay he earned during the government shutdown. Prior to a tour of the Turk Family Center, he presented a check to the Jewish Family Service (JFS) of San Diego for their University City Older Adult Center, helping to pay for the meals it serves to area seniors.

Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) led the effort to highlight his resolution, H.Res. 401, designating the third Tuesday in November as "National Entrepreneurs' Day." The resolution highlights the entrepreneurial spirit of small business owners and those starting new ventures across the country. The inspiration for the resolution came in response to the passing of San Diego innovator Duane Roth earlier this year. Recently, the City and County of San Diego both passed resolutions honoring Duane and establishing days to honor local entrepreneurs.
Today, Congressmen Scott Peters (CA-52) introduced bipartisan legislation that would expand coverage of telehealth services to active-duty servicemembers, their dependents, retirees, and veterans. Because of provider shortages at local practices many servicemembers and veterans lack access to a primary care physician, and in rural communities patients often must travel extended distances to see a healthcare provider.

He voted for the Democratic motion offered by Rep. Andrews of New Jersey, which ultimately did not receive majority support. In addition he joined 38 of his Democratic colleagues in supporting the “Keep Your Health Plan Act of 2013” [HR 3350], introduced by Rep. Upton of Michigan, which passed the House 261-157.
