Rep. Peters Highlights San Diegans in D.C. This Week

WASHINGTON, D.C. – This week, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) has continued to showcase and advocate for San Diegans making their voices heard at various events in Washington, D.C.

“San Diego is known as a center for innovation, collaboration, and bipartisan problem-solving --- exactly what we need more of in Washington, D.C.,” Rep. Peters said. “I’m proud to highlight the amazing work that is being done in our region to create jobs, help solve the failures at the Veterans Administration, and find the next great scientific discovery. Washington must learn from forward-thinking places like San Diego, and I will continue doing everything I can to bring local experts to the forefront.”

On Tuesday, Rep. Peters brought a representative from Solar Turbines to the White House for a meeting about growing exports and creating jobs with Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker and US Trade Representative Michael Froman. Yesterday, Rep. Peters hosted a bipartisan briefing featuring Dr. Howard and Jean Somers, who have developed a detailed report on how to improve care in the healthcare system at the Department of Veterans Affairs. And today, the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology held a hearing about how to spur innovative medical breakthroughs that featured Dr. Craig Venter. Rep. Peters also met today with the new CEO of CONNECT San Diego, Greg McKee, whom he is nominating for the National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the U.S. Department of Commerce.
