As a member of HRC’s San Diego Steering Committee, I have had the opportunity to meet many leaders in the fight for LGBT equality, including my own congressman, Scott Peters.

Earlier this year, I participated in HRC’s Capitol Hill Lobby Day and was able to meet with Representative Peters and many other members of Congress to discuss issues vital to the LGBT community. I also spoke with Congressman Peters at San Diego pride and at HRC’s Fourth Annual HRC San Diego Gala. Through HRC, I was able to be a field director on his campaign as well.

Unfortunately, not all politicians can be stellar supporters of LGBT equality. That is why I depend on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard to tell me where my members of Congress stand on issues that matter to me the most.

As an advocate for the LGBT community and proud member of HRC, I am thankful to have a man like Representative Peters fighting with HRC to advance equality for our community. I know that Representative Peters will work hard to maintain his 100 percent equality rating on the HRC Congressional Scorecard and fight for LGBT rights for years to come.
