Dear Friend,
Preparations for the 2020 Census are underway and we need your help to ensure that California's count is successful.
What is the U.S. Census, and why is it important?
Securing an accurate count of all California residents during the Census is crucial.
The U.S. Constitution directs Congress to count all people living in the United States every 10 years. This effort is known as the Census and is led by the U.S. Census Bureau. The results of the census are used by the federal, state, and local governments to equitably allocate resources and draw electoral maps around the country.
California is traditionally known as one of the most difficult states to get a complete and accurate population count. California is the most populous state in the nation and third largest in geographic size. One of the main challenges we face is the under-counting of certain population groups, such as foreign-born residents, renters, people living close to or below the poverty line, and children under 5 years old.
For California to get its fair share, EVERY Californian must be counted.
What to expect next?
Make sure you are counted in the 2020 U.S. Census.
Beginning March 12, 2020, the U.S. Census Bureau will mail invitations to every household in California with directions to complete the 2020 census questionnaire. Questionnaires can be completed in one of three ways: online, by phone, or through a requested paper form.
The questionnaire should be completed as soon as possible since the Census Bureau focuses outreach efforts on households and individuals who don't respond. If you or your household do not complete the questionnaire, the U.S. Census Bureau will send follow-up alerts by mail, and staff members to contact you in person.

How You Can Help:
Join us for a "Census Recruitment and Information Workshop" in Mira Mesa on Friday, January 31, 2020, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.
I will be joined by Connie Hernandez (CA Complete Count Committee), Joann Fields (AAPI Community Leader), and Jeffrey Arnio (U.S. Census Bureau).
We will discuss in detail the information gathered through the Census, why completing the Census is very important, which federal services are impacted by the Census results, and employment opportunities helping others to complete their questionnaires.
Can't make it to our workshop? Visit California's Census 2020 website for more information and to check for upcoming events near you.
We need to ensure that Californians know EVERYONE COUNTS.
If you have questions about the Census process, our event, or how you can lend a hand in California's efforts, you can visit our website or call our office, at (858)455-5550.
