Dear Friends,
Like many of you, I’m heartbroken and angry over the scourge of gun violence that has plagued our nation. It seems we can’t go even one week without another tragedy ripping apart our communities.
As I’ve traveled around the district in the last month, I’ve heard from many of you that you feel angry, helpless, and hopeless at the thought of continued inaction. I want you to know that I am with you. In fact, most of Congress is with you. The House passed the Bipartisan Background Checks Act and the Enhanced Background Checks Act of 2019 with bipartisan support to close the loopholes in federal gun purchase background check laws and extend the background check review period. According to a national poll conducted by Quinnipiac University, 90 percent of Americans support these universal background checks, but Leader McConnell has not scheduled these bills for a vote in the Senate.
That’s why I’m asking San Diegans to share how gun violence has affected them and their families.
Do you think Congress has done enough to address gun violence?
