Dear Friend,
A recent Supreme Court ruling made on DACA, the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, provided temporary relief for thousands of undocumented immigrants who were brought to America as children and have been living and working here most of their lives. Despite the Trump administration's efforts to eliminate the program in 2017, the Court ruled that the White House failed to provide adequate justification to do so. Although the program remains in effect for now, what does this mean for the thousands of so-called "DREAMERs" and their future in the U.S.?
Please join us for a virtual town hall on the current state and future of DACA. As our second event in a series of virtual town halls where I invite my colleagues in Congress and other experts to present information to San Diegans, we'll discuss the Supreme Court's recent ruling as well as the next steps needed to pass comprehensive immigration reform.
I will be joined by Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus Rep. Pete Aguilar (CA-31), Dulce García, a San Diego-based attorney and plaintiff in the case, and other San Diego "DREAMERs" I've worked with during my time in Congress.
Date: Wednesday, July 8, 2020 Time: 5:30 PM - 6:45 PM Location: via Cisco Webex - see link below!
Attendees are welcome to join the town hall as early as 5:00 PM by clicking on this link: https://ushr.webex.com/ushr/onstage/g.php?MTID=e290d7d696e14ee5ebb6d30e23d718c35
This event will also stream live on Rep. Peters' Facebook page.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we're working for you, on Congress, and on how we can better serve San Diego.
