Happy Pride, San Diego!
Every Pride Month, we celebrate our journey toward a more equal society and the victories won by our LGBTQ community along the way.
50 years since Stonewall.
This year marks the 50th Anniversary of the Stonewall riots – courageous demonstrations to oppose LGBTQ discrimination and brutality in 1969 that sparked the modern-day movement for LGBTQ equal rights.
Since then, California has had a wavering path toward progress with setbacks along the way, but in the end, the state officially passed marriage equality in 2013.
Today, San Diego is home to a strong LGBTQ community and their allies– all committed to fighting for equal rights.

A step toward LGBTQ rights.
I joined my House colleagues to finally pass the Equality Act to give LGBTQ individuals across the nation the same civil rights protections afforded to every other American citizen under the law.
Every American should have the same, unalienable rights regardless of who they are or who they love. No one should ever feel unsafe at school, at work, or anywhere in the United States.
As part of the LGBT Equality Caucus, I will continue this work in Congress until every American can live free from bigotry and hate.
Pride is a time to celebrate the victories made on our path to solidify the universal right to love freely and live openly.
I look forward to celebrating many more milestones and progress in our fight for LGBTQ equal rights.
Have a safe and happy Pride!
