Dear Friend,
We owe it to every veteran to ensure they have an affordable place to live. Unfortunately, too many veterans in San Diego and across the country struggle to find housing after they leave the service.
I offered an amendment to the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) portion of the spending bill passed by Congress last week to prohibit the VA from taking
funds away from programs that help homeless veterans.
Watch my remarks on the amendment here.
Last year, the VA tried to shift funding from the HUD-VASH program, a successful partnership between the VA and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that helps homeless veterans and their families find and sustain permanent housing. The VA reversed their plan after public outcry, but we can't risk funds being diverted from veteran homelessness programs again.
As San Diego continues to address veteran homelessness, we need to ensure we have the funds to support our heroes with resources they desperately need. I will keep fighting to keep our promise to veterans in San Diego and across the country.
