Rep. Scott Peters Celebrates San Diego’s LGBT Community During Pride

SAN DIEGO, CA – Today, Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52) honored San Diego’s LGBT community and this weekend’s Pride celebration with an official statement in the Congressional record and he released a video greeting honoring the diverse contributions of LGBT San Diegans to the region’s history and heritage.

“San Diego Pride is a time to celebrate the amazing progress of the diverse and dynamic LGBT community,” Rep. Peters said. “San Diego has a long history of LGBT leadership that has helped our region and our state become more equal for all. I’m proud to be an ally of the LGBT community and am looking forward to continuing the fight for equal rights nationwide. I can’t wait to see friends, colleagues, and constituents at San Diego Pride this weekend.”

Since coming to Congress, Representative Peters has continued his advocacy for equal rights and marriage equality. He has LGBT staff members, supports equal workplace protections for all Americans, sent an amicus brief to the Supreme Court last year in opposition to the Defense of Marriage Act, and has cosponsored numerous pieces of LGBT focused legislation including several to enhance protections for LGBT youth.
