- U.S. Rep. Scott Peters of San Diego supports lighting the White House blue one night during September’s Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. In this photo he holds a #SignforDAD sign. Similar photos have been posted on various social media by leaders such as Houston Mayor Annise Parker, Rosenberg Mayor Vincent Morales, Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, Congressman Gene Green and others.

These leaders join such entertainers as Kelly Clarkson, Seth Rogen and Christina Applegate, along with pro athletes and others who want to see the White House lit blue for men’s prostate cancer awareness, just as it’s lit pink in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Blue Cure Foundation is campaigning for the White House to be lit blue one night this September to reach younger men with a message of awareness, prevention and risk reduction, lend comfort to those who have lost loved ones to the disease and honor America’s over 2.5 million prostate cancer survivors.

This year 233,000 men will be diagnosed and 29,480 will die of prostate cancer.

You can add your voice for dads, sons, husbands, brothers, uncles and grandpas by signing the online petition here: http://www.WhiteHouseBlue.org.

Also a big thank you to San Diego Padres players Will Venable, Alexi Amarista, Nick Vincent, Everth Cabrera, Jedd Gyorko, Yonder Alonso, Rene Rivera, Jake Goebbert and Andrew Cashner for supporting the call to reach a younger generation with a message of prevention. We know that educating younger men and empowering them to make healthier choices can significantly reduce risks of cancers, heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

This is all part of “lighting blue” and “going blue.”
